Smallmouth bass can be found in the first 0.5 -1.0 mile of a few streams flowing into Fontana Lake near the park boundary (i.e., Eagle Creek, Hazel Creek, Noland Creek). Noland Creek Trail can take you near Clingmans Dome;

Noland Divide Trail stretches from Deep Creek entrance to national park to Clingman’s Dome Road; three other ridges also can be hiked to near that high place (what trails are on parallel Fortney Ridge, Sunkota Ridge and Thomas Ridge. Thomas Divide Trail (13.7 miles) goes from near Bryson City to a spot on Newfound Gap Road near Charles A. Webb Overlook about 3.3 miles from Clingman’s Dome Road.

Deep Creek Trail (14 miles to a spot on Newfound Gap Road) and Deep Creek Horse Trail, Juney Whank Falls Trail; Thomas Divide Trail is near; Indian Creek Trail via Deep Creek Trail; Sunkota Ridge Trail from Deep Creek area
